Oman
As one of the oldest countries on the Arabian Peninsula, Oman had extensive maritime and land trade activities in the second millennium BC and became the shipbuilding center of the Arabian Peninsula.
Oman has a special geographical location with a coastline of more than 1,700 kilometers. The import and export trade is completely unaffected by the Strait of Hormuz. It can reach Iran in the north and go deep into the Gulf countries and other Middle East countries to the west. Foreign trade can radiate to the surrounding consumer market with a population of 1.6 billion.
Energy cooperation has always been the "highlight" of China's trade with Oman.
As the third largest country in the Arabian Peninsula, Oman is very rich in oil resources, with proven oil reserves ranking 22nd in the world and natural gas reserves ranking 16th in the world. In addition, it also has coal, iron ore, gold, silver, copper, chromium, manganese and other metal mines. Therefore, oil and gas play a pivotal role in Oman's export trade.
In 1989, China and Oman established the Economic and Trade Commission. With the development of trade between the two countries, Oman has become an important trading partner of China in West Asia and North Africa. The economic and technological cooperation has been deepened and the scale has continued to expand. At present, China has been the largest importer of Oman's oil for ten consecutive years. Of the 1 million barrels of crude oil produced by Oman per day, 80% are supplied to China. Petrochemicals, minerals and seafood are also the main products exported to China. .
In addition, the economic and trade cooperation between China and Oman also involves many fields such as telecommunications, infrastructure, fishery and commerce. China's Huawei is currently the main equipment supplier of Oman's telecommunications industry, and its share in the telecommunications market in Oman ranks first. According to the statistics of the Ministry of Commerce, China's direct investment in Oman in 2016 was US$4.62 million, and by the end of 2016, the stock of Chinese direct investment in Oman was US$86.63 million.
Although they are far apart, Oman has had close exchanges with China since ancient times. Chinese Ambassador to Oman Yu Fulong once said that the Omani people have a closeness to the ancient Maritime Silk Road that is rarely seen in other countries in the region, and thus have a high sense of identity with the "Belt and Road" initiative. Therefore, a good public opinion foundation has become an advantage for China and Arab countries to jointly build the "Belt and Road".
In the context of the smooth docking of policies, the complementarity of the industrial structures of the two countries provides a broad space for cooperation between enterprises of the two countries.
China's advanced equipment, superb technology, high-quality personnel, and sound industrial standards can play an important role in Oman's economic and social development.
