Trade between Guyana and China

06-01-2025

The trade between Guyana and China is becoming increasingly close and fruitful.

According to statistics, the bilateral trade volume between China and Guyana reached US$1.88 billion in 2022, an increase of 164.9% year-on-year, which fully reflects the strong resilience and vigorous vitality of the economic and trade cooperation between the two countries. China exports machinery and equipment, vehicles and accessories, steel, electromechanical products, plastic products, etc. to Guyana, and imports oil, gold, manganese ore, wood, fishery products, etc. from Guyana.

In recent years, driven by the "Belt and Road" initiative, China-Guyana economic and trade cooperation has entered the fast lane. Guyana's rich natural resources and good investment environment have attracted many Chinese companies to invest and start businesses, involving energy, mining, finance, agriculture and fisheries and other fields. At the same time, the Guyanese government also attaches great importance to economic and trade cooperation with China, and actively promotes bilateral trade and investment facilitation.

In addition, the cooperation between the two countries in the field of infrastructure construction has also achieved remarkable results. For example, the Guyana New Demerara River Bridge Project undertaken by China Railway Construction Corporation and the airport expansion project undertaken by China Harbour Engineering Company Limited have made important contributions to Guyana's economic and social development.

Looking to the future, China and Guyana will continue to deepen economic and trade cooperation, jointly promote the continuous expansion of bilateral trade and investment, speed up the transportation efficiency from China to Guyana, and bring more tangible benefits to the people of the two countries.
