Transportation routes from China to Azerbaijan
Transportation routes from China to Azerbaijan
Azerbaijan is a landlocked country in Central Asia, bordered by the Caspian Sea, but the Caspian Sea is also an inland sea, so there are no sea ports. Therefore, currently, there are basically only two routes shipping from China to Azerbaijan: sea+land transportation, and full railway. Below is a brief introduction to the two routes:
Sea and land transportation
1. China- Iran- Azerbaijan (currently this line accounts for about 70%)
The Chinese sea freight first arrives at the ABBAS port in Iran, with a voyage of approximately 18-26 days. The ABBAS port takes about 3 days for container picking operations, and then it is towed by road to Baku, where it takes approximately 3-5 days and the entire journey takes approximately 28-35 days.
Cost: FOB inland lump sum cost from Chinese factory to port+sea freight to ABBAS (real-time freight rate)+1900 USD for ABBAS to Baku trailer (up to 20 tons,+50 USD for each additional ton)
2. China- Georgia -Azerbaijan (currently this line accounts for about 5%)
Chinese shipping first arrived at Georgia's POTI port, with a voyage of about 35-40 days. It took about 3 days to pick up cases at the POTI terminal, and then it took about 1-3 days to reach Baku by road trailer. The whole journey took about 39-45 days.
Cost: FOB inland lump sum cost from Chinese factory to port+sea freight to POTI (real-time freight rate)+POTI to Baku trailer around 600USD (within 20 tons, for every additional 2 tons+50USD)
3. China -Turkey -Azerbaijan (currently this line is almost deserted)
Chinese shipping first arrived at Mersin Port in Türkiye, with a voyage of about 25-30 days. It took about 3 days to pick up cases at Mersin Terminal, and then used road trailers to reach Baku. It took about 3-10 days here, and about 30-40 days after the whole journey (There is an Armenian in the middle here, you understand)
Cost: FOB inland lump sum cost from Chinese factory to port+sea freight to Mersin (real-time freight rate)+about 2500 USD from Mersin to Baku trailer
Pure railway
1. China Kazakhstan Azerbaijan (After being established by Iran, this route is a safe and reliable route, and transportation business will account for over 50% during the establishment period)
The railway starts from Xi'an railway station, leaves Khorgos, passes through Kurek Port (Lihai Port), and arrives at Baku Absheron port by special railway ferry. The station code is 548004. The whole journey takes 11-13 days,
Cost: Specifically, it depends on the source of goods, which is much cheaper than sea transportation around Xi'an. For coastal areas, the cost is similar to that of sea transportation routes during the production period in Iran.
